Nuclear Test Site Trinity

On this location , the first atomic bomb of the United States exploded, on 16 July 1945, during the Manhattan Project. The location was a remote part of the Alamogordo Bombing Range, nowaday known as the White Sands Missile Range.

The bomb was a Plutonium-bomb of about 20 kilotons. It was called The Gadget. The explosion created a crater of 3 meters deep and 330 meters wide. Later on, the cratet was egalized.

Nowadays, the location is a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public just twice a year. There is a memorial on the exact location of the tower the bomb was put in.
