Island of Tinian played a critical role in ending WWII in the pacific. Once the island was secured, B-29's bombers launched from the North Airfield to conduct airstrikes against Japan. On August 6th 1945, the B-29 Enola Gay dropped "Little Boy" on Hiroshima and on August 9th, 1945 the B-29 Bocks Car dropped "Fat Man" on Nagasaki. The Japanese surrendered on August 15th 1945.
