Dutch War Grave Jewish Cemetery Ommen

A Dutch War Grave can be found at the Jewish Cemetery. It is the grave of Salomon Roet. He was born on June 13, 1890 in Amsterdam and died on January 19, 1943 in Camp Erika in Ommen as a result of the many assaults. As far as it can now be traced, he was deported to Camp Erika in September 1942 from his home in The Hague. He was one of the few Jewish prisoners in Camp Erika. The Jewish prisoners in Erika were permanently placed with the Punishment Company, were the most abused and did the hardest work. They slept separately from the other prisoners in a tent and had to hand in their clothes at night, even in winter.

His wife and six children were deported to Auschwitz. At least five of his children and his wife died there:
