Memorial Line-Crossers Sliedrecht

This monument was erected for the line-crossers of the Group Albrecht who sailed in canoes and rowboats from Sliedrecht to Lage Zwaluwe to bring information, people and medicine to the liberated area and vice versa. The first crossing took place on November 6, 1944. In total about 374 crossings were made between Sliedrecht & Lage Zwaluwe and the other route Werkendam & Drimmelen.
For these crossers this monument was erected in 1966.

A plaque on the monument commemorates the 60th visit of Market Garden veterans to the Netherlands, on September 18, 2004. In fact, the line crossers brought nearly 50 British soldiers who had stayed behind after Market Garden through the Biesbosch to liberated territory. Among them on Feb. 6 and 10, 1945, respectively, were General J.W. Hacket, Division Physician G.M. Warrack and surgeon W.A. Lippman-Kessel who had operated on Hacket's wounds.
