On the Railway Bridge at Lent is a plaque which reminds that Dutch Engineers blew up this bridge in May 1940 to slow down the German advance.
This plaque also remembers how the bridge was conquered by the US 82nd Airborne Division after their crossing of the River Waal. During the fights an unknown number of Allied and German troops were killed in action. The Germans were buried in temporary graves in the dyke. On September 29, 1944 German divers blew up the middle arch of the Railway Bridge.
