In the town hall of Best there is a display case in tribute to the American paratrooper Joe Eugene Mann who fought for the liberation of Best.
This display case also contains the posthumously awarded Medal of Honor.
Joe Mann was an American soldier in World War II. He served in the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army and was killed in the battle of Best on September 19, 1944 by sacrificing himself for his fellow soldiers. He caught the explosion of a grenade with his back and thereby saved the lives of his comrades. For this act he posthumously received the highest American military award: the 'Medal of Honor'.
