At this address, a former ice cream parlor, was the command of the German troops in Rotterdam on May 14, 1940.
The text on the plaque reads:
The Ice Cream Parlor
In this building at Prins Hendrikkade 66b,
the commander of the German troops, Schmidt,
wrote the second ultimatum on May 14, 1940,
which he handed to Captain Backer at 1.15 pm.
Even before Backer had left the island,
the bombs fell at 1:27 pm on the city.
The plaque is an initiative by Ellen Vomberg of Stolpersteine Noordereiland.
