In 2019 it was 75 years ago that Belgium was Liberated by the Allied forces.
In this context, Tourism Province of Antwerp organized various activities related to the Liberation in collaboration with Liberation Route Europe. Together with the participating cities and municipalities, a themed brochure with local stories supplemented with photos was made. Information boards were placed at 48 historical locations, each with a local theme.
Theme Kasterlee: German anti-aircraft guns bombarded Allied aircraft.
In the Kempen there are German anti-aircraft guns (FLAK) in various places in the Kempen. During Operation Market Garden, the Allied air fleet heading for Eindhoven, several C-47s are shot down by the German guns. Lieutenant Hesketh's C-47 42-24127 crashed in the vicinity of the information board.
