Following the landing on August 7, 1942 the commanders of the First Marine Division, led by General General Alexander Archer Vandegrift, moved their command post inland from the beaches and established it here, not far from Bloody Ridge. The best accounts of this command post can be found in Herbert C. Merillat’s Guadalcanal Remembered. Not much remains at the site.
