Japanese Veteran Memorial Bench Guadalcanal

Japanese veterans of Guadalcanal erected the small bench, which looks out to what became known as Iron Bottom Sound, for the many ships sunk in its waters.

The island faintly visible on the horizon is Tulagi, also invaded by American Marines on August 7, 1942, the same day as the landing on Guadalcanal.
