Memorial Synagogue Vreden

Memorial in the center of Vreden. On the former "Synagogengasse" or Synagogue Alley where the former synagogue once stood.

In three corners of a Star of David, paved with basalt pebbles, a large basalt stone with a bronze plaque on it has been included. On the plaques the names of the murdered Vredener Jews Left, an inscription on the center column that reads; "in memory of our Jewish fellow citizens who were persecuted, expelled and murdered in concentration camps. Finally, on the right of the column, a plaque with an image of the former synagogue and the inscription: "Here stood the Synagogue of the Jewish community in Vreden. She was built in 1803, destroyed during the pogrom on November 9, 1938 by National Socialists and demolished in 1944.

The monument, surrounded on 3 sides by a hedge, can be seen from the sidewalk. The design comes from the young architect Guido Leek (design 1997; unveiled on November 9, 2001).
