On September 17, 1944 after dropping 17 paratroopers in Eerde (NL) during Operation Market Garden, captain Wending's C-47 was hit by anti-aircraft fire. The aircraft caught fire and crashed at the rear of the Kievitstraat in Mol-Millegem.
1Lt. JW Thurncliff, 2Lt. Schroeder and T/Sgt. Dunwoody were temporarily buried at the church of Mol-Millegem.
S/Sgt. Keefe was the sole survivor of the crash.
Paul D. Dunwoody is buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery at Neupré
