On the opposite side of the road is a small forest known as the Rabbit Grove. In this grove stood a government labor camp that played a sad role in the persecution and extermination of the Jews. On 3 October 1942, nearly 200 Jews were deported from this camp to Westerbork, after which they were subsequently deported, in particular to Sobibor extermination camp in Poland, where they were gassed to death immediately upon arrival.
