Kamp Erika - Remembrance stone A

Kamp Erika, an almost forgotten German concentration camp in the woods of Ommen, Overijssel. Two monuments have been erected around the camp, one for the entire camp and one for the executed resistance members. A campsite was built on the site of the camp just after the war. In this area nothing reminded of the camp.

Artist Corine Aalvanger was asked to design a monument that blends into the landscape, yet respects history. She chose to cast the five letters of the camp, E, R, I, K, A in concrete and bury them mostly at the corners of the pentagonal camp. It symbolizes "for the concealment of this history", according to Aalvanger.
