Perimeter Route Marker 9: Villa Hartenstein

This is a marker of the Perimeter Route. On this route you walk in the footsteps of the Allies who tried to liberate this region in September 1944. Follow the route and discover not only impressive locations and historical events, but also personal stories from civilians and soldiers who were present at these places during the Battle of Arnhem.

Villa Hartenstein was the headquarters of the British troops led by Major General Urquhart. Due to the shelling, the headquarters had to be moved to the basement of the building.
