On this spot, which is former German territory, stood "Hotel Startjeshof". The lime trees on the road and the remains of stairs and walls are the last remains of the hotel.
In the period preceding the Second World War, Jewish musicians and artists in particular fled from Germany to North and South America with the help of the owner of the hotel. The German border guards were bribed by the owner of the hotel.
During the liberation of the Netherlands, the hotel was reduced to ashes by an American bombardment on September 20, 1944.
