Temporary Montgomery Headquarters Geldrop

In early February 1945, British Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery looked for a temporary headquarters in Geldrop. He had his eye on the beautiful villa with a beautiful backyard at Nieuwendijk 52. He would settle there for more than a month. It was special that he had a permanent headquarters set up in Geldrop because he usually used a mobile headquarters, located in caravans.
The headquarters was of course kept secret and there was no external security. What was striking was the cage with the canary in front of the window.
If it showed, then Montgomery was there. Despite the secrecy, the Germans got wind of the headquarters. They carried out attacks with fighter planes armed with heavy machine guns. It caused no more than material damage.
