On this site stood the synagogue of Sinzig. On Nov. 9, 1938, the synagogue escaped arson by the Nazis, and on the morning of Nov. 10 the windows were smashed. Then just before the war, the synagogue was used as a Nazi welfare center for children. During the war, the building was used as a soldiers' camp and then as an emergency shelter for refugees.
