Dilworth Building

The Dilworth Building is an unique building in central Auckland original built to provide education for dis-advantaged boys in 1927. Latterly it was used by the American embassy and during WW2 became the US Army Headquarters. A stone in pavement in front of the building reads:

"THE DILWORTH BUILDING
Auckland City Council Schedule 'B'
This elegant 'stripped classical' building
with a Portland stone facing was built
between 1926 and 1927 for the Dilworth
Trust to provide income for philanthropic
work. It was reputedly the secret control
headquarters for the Battle of Guadacanal
in the Solomon Islands during the Second
World War"
