Smolensk Air Base
Adolf Hitler arrived here on March 13, 1943, to visit the headquarters of Heeresgruppe Mitte. Officers at the headquarters planned an attempt on his life, but through a series of events the bomb was eventually brought in by plane. The bomb did not explode.
