Statue Sir Henry Bartle Frere

Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere (29 Mar 1815- 29 May 1884) was a British Colonial administrator who served in India as Governor of Bombay and as High Commissioner for Southern Africa. His actions in South Africa (1877-1880) in trying to unite the area under British control upset both the Zulu natives and the Boer settlers culminating in the disastrous Anglo-Zulu (1879) and First Boer War (1880-1881). Frere was recalled to London to face charges of misconduct and was officially censured.
