Memorial Old Synagogue Chemnitz

This memorial, erected in 1988, commemorates the Old Synagogue of Chemnitz, which was located here and was destroyed in the Reichspogramnacht in November 1938.

The text states:
„An dieser Stelle stand die im Jahr 1899 von Rabbiner Dr. Mühlfelder geweihte Synagoge.
Durch faschistische Brandstifter wurde sie in der Pogromnacht am 9. November 1938 in Schutt und Asche gelegt."

At this place in 1899 Rabbi Mühlfelder consecrated a synagogue. During Pogramnacht on 9 November 1938, fascist arsonists reduced it into rubble and ashes.
