This cemetery contains the graves of veterans from WW1 and WW2, as well as war victims.
There are also many symbolic graves of Holocaust victims.
During the Warsaw Uprising of August 1944, there was also fighting on the Jewish cemetery, traces of which are still clearly visible.
The grave on photo five belongs to Michas Rudniansk, a father of 38, and his son Ignacy of 8. They were murdered by the Nazis on 25 August 1942, according to the text on the stone.
Adam Czerniakow
Adam Czerniakow was leader of the Jewish Council in the Warsaw ghetto. On 22 July 1942, he was informed by the Germans that the Jewish Council was to ensure the daily presence of 6,000 Jews at the Umslagplatz, the location from which the trains towards extermination camp Treblinka departed. Although it was not told that the Jews would be murdered, Czerniakow probably knew this. In any case, he ended his own life on 24 July, because he did not want to take responsibility for the deportations.
His grave is in the Jewish Powazki cemetery in Warsaw (Block 10, row 2). Apart from himself, his wife is also buried here.
