Commonwealth War Grave Churchyard Willige Langerak

At the Churchyard at the Church in Willige Langerak, municipality Schoonhoven, is one Commonwealth war grave. It is the grave of:
Private Clarence Ash, 4917906, died on 09/25/1944, age 25.

During Operation Market Garden in September 1944, many British Airbornes attempted to cross the river Rhine to stay out of the hands of the Germans. Many of these Britons were killed by enemy fire or they drowned in the Rhine. Also Clarence Ash, he drowned during the crossing. His body was found in November 1944 by Jaap Bestebroer and Jan van Holte in the River Lek near Willige Langerak.
