Shorncliffe Military Cemetery

Shorncliffe Military Cemetery contains 471 First World War burials, more than 300 of them Canadian. Second World War burials number 81, including 1 unidentified U.K. soldier and 1 Polish Foreign National. Most of the casualties were killed during air raids on Shorncliffe. The cemetery also contains a screen wall on which are commemorated 18 Belgians originally buried in a mausoleum, now demolished.

Shorncliffe Military Cemetery contains the graves of the following people, who fought for the United Kingdom and who gave their lives in the War in Afghanistan and/or Operation Enduring Freedom:

22 January 2010 , Rifleman Peter Aldridge, aged 19
30 October 2012 , Lieutenant Edward Alexander Drummond, aged 29

Shorncliffe Military Cemetery also contains the grave of John Doohan VC (1853-1940). He was awarded the Victoria Cross for an action on 28 January 1881 during the Battle of Laing's Nek in the First Boer War (1880-1881).
