Memorial Gate of Liberation Bergeijk

The text on the memorial reads:
On September 11, 1944 the first Allied reconnaissance unit of the Second Household Cavalry Regiment put the first foot on Dutch soil. On September 17 followed the penetration in the context of Market Garden. From 20 to September 21, the Royal Dutch Princess Irene Brigade moved along this port back into the homeland.

The old location was 10 meters from the border with Belgium, the new location is now about 450 meters away.
Incidentally, this new location more closely corresponds to the point where the first contact on September 11, 1944 was with the first Allied, Sir Rupert Buchanan-Jardine, commander of the reconnaissance group. He then spoke to the first Dutchman, Jef Theuws from Bergeijk.
