This monument reminds the inhabitants of Beek (municipality of Berg en Dal) of the liberation of their village on 17 September 1944 by the 508th Regiment Paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division. An important role was played by Lt John P. Foley, after whom the park near the memorial is named.
The memorial was erected in 1981, as there was a need for a place in the village where the fallen soldiers could be commemorated, especially by their former comrades-in-arms. It was unveiled on 17 September that year by two servicemen of the 82nd Airborne Division.
The text on the monument reads:
'DEDICATED TO THE LIBERATORS OF BEEK.
82nd Airborne Division 1944
17 SEPTEMBER 1981?.
