Sino-American Cooperative Organization Commemorative Medal

Lead by Lieutenant General Tail Li, Chief of the Chinese Nationalist Intelligence Bureau, the Sino-American Cooperative Organization was a unit consisting of Chinese Nationalist military and American Navy and Marine Corps personnel. The highest American officer was Captain Milton Miles of the United States Navy.
The medal to commemorate this unit was instituted by the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defence in 1974. Over 600 were presented on an annual convention of the Sino-American Cooperative Organization in San Diego. The medal could be awarded to former members of the Sino-American Cooperative Organization who fought against the Japanese forces on the Chinese Mainland between 1942 and 1945.

The medal is made in the form of a twenty-eight pointed star, with a superimposed blue Maltese cross over a red Maltese cross. In the centre is a medallion with the American and the Republic of China flag. Through the centre of the medallion there are two hands that are being shaken as a token of friendship. On the reverse a Chinese inscription can be seen which states: "IN RECOGNITION OF THE CONTRIBUTIONS MADE BY THOSE WHO FOUGHT AGAINST THE AGGRESSORS FOR FREEDOM DURING THE PERIOD 1942-1945. PRESENTED BY THE CHINESE COMRADES-IN-ARMS."
The ribbon bears the colours blue, white, red, yellow, red, white and blue in vertical lines.
