John Chard Medal

Instituted in 1952, the John Chard Medal (JCD) was awarded for 12 years efficient service in the Citizen Force.
From 1986 onwards a person would have to qualify for 10 years of efficient service to be entiteld to the JCD.
A recipient could qualify for the John Chard Decoration after a further eight years. Yet, once he received the Decoration he had to stop wearing the Medal.
The JCD was discontinued in 2003.
