Stadspenning 's-Hertogenbosch in goud

The first and directly highest municipal medal of honour is the city medal, which was established in 1920 by the municipal council of 's-Hertogenbosch. During the meeting on 21 June 1920, the Municipal Council of 's-Hertogenbosch decided to have an 'Eerepenning van 's-Hertogenbosch' made, which could be awarded in gold, silver or bronze. In 1981/1982, the 'silver' class was abolished. Since then, the gold city medal (by decision of the council) and the bronze city medal (by decision of the board) have been awarded regularly. The honorary title of citizenship of 's-Hertogenbosch is also linked to the gold city medal.

The medal was designed (without profit motive) by Huib Luns (1881-1942), who was at the time director and co-founder of the Royal School of Visual Arts in 's-Hertogenbosch.

Description:
The city medal is a striking neck struck by the Royal Degeer and has a diameter of 60 mm. On the front of the medal is an image of the city wall with three entrance gates, which refers to the fortified city. In the centre, Duke Hendrik I of Brabant is depicted on horseback, with a falcon and dogs. Behind him, the St. John's Cathedral and the city hall of 's-Hertogenbosch rose from the forest, as the main monuments. The city coat of arms is shown in the foreground. The back is left free for an inscription and is surrounded by a decorative border.
