On Friday September 16, 2022, the annual commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem was held in Arnhem. As in previous years, there was first a meeting for invited guests in the Eusebius Church. One of the speakers here was Minister of Justice and Security Yeşilgöz-Zegerius. This was followed by the commemoration ceremony in the 'Berenkuil'.

Newsflash Freedom Fire de Peel Monday 19 September 2022

Today in Deurne, the annual Freedom Fire was distributed through the Peel communities. The Freedom Fire was brought from Eindhoven to Deurne yesterday and from there by various runners groups past through to the 11 Peel communities. The meeting began with a welcome speech from the mayor of Deurne, Ms. Buter. Sjoerd Ewals from the German War Cemetery Ysselsteyn gave a speech, after which the Freedom Fire was passed on to the different mayors. The meeting was livened up with the singing of Noëlle van Bussel and the Firebrigade Pipes & Drums.

Newsflash Commemoration Eerde Saturday September 17, 2022

The annual commemoration of Operation Market Garden was held on Saturday 17 September 2022 at the Geronimo monument and the Eerdse Molen in Eerde. Mayor Kees van Rooij and some American dignitaries from the embassy and the 101st Airborne Division gave a speech and wreaths were laid at the monument.

The annual commemoration of Operation Market Garden was held at the Parachutist monument in Son on Saturday September 17, 2022. Mayor Hans Gaillard gave a speech and flowers were laid at the monument. Reenactors and the Andrew Sisters created a nice atmosphere around the commemoration. The encampment of the reenactors can still be seen on the Oranjeveld in Son until Sunday the 18th.

Explorers find the world's deepest shipwreck four miles under the Pacific

The USS Destroyer Escort Samuel B. Roberts, known as the Sammy B., is the world's deepest shipwreck. It has been located at a depth of 6,895 meters (22,621 feet) in the Philippine Sea -- more than four miles deep -- by explorer Victor Vescovo.

Photo report unveiling memorial Lancaster DS818

On 13 June 2022 a memorial was unveiled in Nunspeet for the crew of Avro Lancaster II DS818 JI-Q 'Maggie' of RAF 514 Sqdn. The aircraft had taken off from Waterbeach base in England for an attack on Gelsenkirchen. On June 13, 1944 during the return flight the aircraft was shot down by a German night fighter at the Oosteinderweg in Nunspeet. Four British crew members were killed. They are buried at the General Cemetery East in Nunspeet.

Resistance fighter identified almost 80 years after World War II

Almost 80 years after he was arrested and disappeared during World War II, the remains of resistance fighter Cornelis Pieter Kreukniet have been identified. The DNA of a second cousin has determined that the remains that were excavated in 1947 from an anonymous grave on the Waalsdorpervlakte are Kreukniet, the Ministry of Defense reported on Saturday.

British veterans visit the Airborne Museum

On Saturday 26 February 2022, a group of British veterans visited the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek. The renovated museum would be opened by them on March 13, 2020. That didn't happen in the nick of time because the first lockdown related to Corona came into force on that day.
