Beange was mortally wounded on the afternoon of 24 March 1945 during the attack on the town of Speldrop, a town on the east bank of the Rhine. He fell mortally wounded by shell fire and bravely continued the attack. He was knocked unconscious almost immediately and died later that same day, never regaining consciousness.
