"At Arnhem on September 18th 1944, Lance-Corporal Dunne was medical orderly to "B" Company which was on an isolated detachment. The Company was subjected to very heavy mortar and machine-gun fire and there were numerous casualties. Lance-Corporal Dunne entirely oblivious of all danger went out in the face of this fierce fire to attend to the wounded and to bring them back to the company aid post. In order to reach the crew of an anti-tank gun who had been slightly wounded, Lance-Corporal Dunne had to climb a six foot wall still under intense fire. Wherever the battle was fiercest, Lance-Corporal Dunne was to be found tending the wounded with no thought for himself. His courage and devotion to duty in the face of grave danger were of the highest order."
