    "Throughout the action at Arnhem between the 19th and 25th September this Officer displayed outstanding initiative and courage. His sector under heavy mortar fire and was subjected to numerous heavy enemy attacks by tanks, self-propelled guns and infantry. He continuously led patrols against the enemy and personally was responsible for destruction of enemy tanks and self-propelled guns. In spite of physical distress he insisted on carrying out his duties, inspiring his men and showing a complete disregard to his personal safety. This Officer's personal courage and bravery was an outstanding example to all ranks."
