"At Arnhem on the 20th September 1944 'C' Company were being heavily attacked by the enemy who attempted to infiltrate round the flank, an action which would have jeopardised the Company positions. Private Webster immediately, and on his own initiative, attacked the enemy with his PIAT. Although he succeeded in killing many, the enemy was very determined and pressed on. With complete disregard for personal safety and under heavy fire Private Webster then attacked with bayonet and grenades, and was so persistent in closing with the enemy that he forced them to withdraw, leaving many dead and wounded behind. The direct result of Private Webster's action was that the enemy attack was successfully repulsed with heavy losses to the enemy. His personal gallantry and devotion to duty were outstanding and an example to all ranks."
