Biography

Son of John and Sara Wallace. Worked in the family business and joined the 8th New Brunswick Hussars Battalion on 23 July 1940. Took part in operations in North Africa, Italy and the Netherlands.

John Wallace was killed at the age of 25 on 17 April 1945 during fierce fighting in the liberation of Putten near Voorthuizerstraat.

He is buried at the Canadian Cemetery in Groesbeek and was awarded the Italy Star, the France & Germany Star, the War Medal, the Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp.

His name appears on the monument to the Canadian servicemen in Putten.
