On the 01.09.1941, while his Kompanie was in the process of changing positions, Leutnant Mokros and his men had a chance encounter with a Soviet battalion that was in the process of trying to punch a hole in the German perimeter around a bridgehead. Their objective was to press their advance in the direction of Potschep, cut off the supply of the German troops in the bridgehead and roll up their positions from the rear.
Mokros immediately recognized this danger, and on his own initiative he led his Kompanie in a charge against the Soviets. As his men had shot off all their ammunition, the attack was made with bayonets and entrenching tools. The Soviet battalion was wiped out in bitter close combat. For this action, of decisive importance for the wider situation, Mokros would receive the Knight’s Cross.

On the 13.02.1945 Regiment Mokros was deployed along the line Ferschweiler—Ernzen. Deployed on the right side was the remnants of Kampfgruppe Wickert, in the centre the remnants of the Füsilier-Bataillon 212 and on the left the II./Grenadier-Regiment 423 with the subordinated remnants of the I./Grenadier-Regiment 423. In the ensuing battle, Mokros fought to prevent the encirclement of the II./Grenadier-Regiment 423. With troops from his right and centre units, he created a new defensive position along the line Laisenhof—Hill 375.5. When the units occupying this new line were thrown out of the position around midday, Mokros once again gathered forces from the 13./Grenadier-Regiment 423 and was able to establish a new line along the Prüm river.
Mokros’ leadership here (in a battle partially fought in close combat with grenades and machine-pistols) was pivotal in preventing a deep Soviet penetration as well as an encirclement of the II./Grenadier-Regiment 423. He would be recognized appropriately for this feat.
Unnumbered awarding, when numberd it would have been the 860th Award.
