Oberstleutnant Seitz played a critical role in the weeks-long defense of the town of Kopzy starting on 17.01.1942. His active leadership, bravery and iron will all helped to ensure the German success here in spite of the fierce fighting. Through the successful defense here it was possible to continue operations in this area, and in recognition of the significance of his efforts Seitz was decorated with the Knight's Cross.

In August 1942 Oberstleutnant Seitz played an indispensable role in the successes of his division north of Orel, where strong elements of three Soviet divisions were annihilated. In the subsequent heavy defensive battles he would further demonstrate his exemplary leadership. Within his regimental sector, over the course of three days, 20 large-scale Soviet attacks were successfully repulsed.

For these actions Oberstleutnant Seitz would be decorated with the Oakleaves to his Knight's Cross.
