On the 22.01.1942 Oberstleutnant Strahammer was in command of a Kampfgruppe (consisting of his Panzerjäger-Abteilung and two companies of the Infanterie-Regiment 391) opposite the Soviet beachhead at Sudak, on the south coast of the Crimea. Despite superior opposing forces, he took the independent decision to go beyond his orders and capture the Nem Kolenya from the Soviets. By this action the final hostile resistance in this area was irreversibly crushed. Strahammer was recognized for this accomplishment with the Knight's Cross.

On the 02.06.1944 the 65. Infanterie-Division was mentioned in the Wehrmachtbericht for its defensive successes west of the Alban hills. Before Campoleone and on the gravel road 168 US tanks were claimed as destroyed. For his major role in these achievements, Strahammer was awarded the Oakleaves to his Knight's Cross.
