“Hauptmann Jakob Zimmermann… led his Panzergrenadiers (hailing from the German Danube regions) in a successful counterattack against strong enemy forces that had penetrated friendly lines north of Orel. Then, despite the onset of darkness, he decided to press his attack. In doing so he managed to eliminate two Soviet battalions, and by pivoting to the left he also was able to throw back those Bolshevik forces that were attacking the left neighbouring unit.”
