Major Andree commanded the I./Grenadier-Regiment 504 during the bitter fighting in the Ukraine in the winter of 1943-44. He was involved in the German effort to retake Korosten on 25.11.1943, attacking from the south. His battalion played a major role in the German success, especially during the fighting for the railway station on this day, and in the course of the battle the Soviet 226th rifle division was almost completely wiped out. After further fighting of his Bataillon around Slobodka he was finally submitted for the Knight’s Cross.
