“Hauptmann Ernst Werner and his Bataillon managed to reach their ordered day’s objective after they had forced a crossing over the Don river and established a bridgehead. When his Bataillon then began taking heavy artillery and small-arms fire fire a commanding height nearby, Hauptmann Werner decided to storm this Bolshevik hill position at the head of his infantrymen. After this was done they then successfully fended off 7 major enemy attacks that were launched in response.”
