Biography

Michael was a prisoner of war from 1945 until 1949. After this he was employed at the GHH Werk Sterkrade as Machine Fitter. On April 4th 1956 he entered the German Bundeswehr with the rank of Major. He commanded the 1./GrenadierLBtl from 1956 until 1959 and then became Kommandant der Stabsquartier with the Wehrbereichkommando IV in Mainz. Between January and September 1959 he was the Inspektionschef with the Panzertruppenschule at Munster. After being assigned as Deputy Commander of the Panzergrenadierbataillon 73 at Seedorf from 1959 until 1960, he returned to the Panzertruppeschule. From 1961 until 1963 he was Deputy Commander of the Panzergrenadier Training Battalion 92 in Munster and became in 1963 the Tactics Instructor at the Heeresoffizierschule III in Munich.
From 1946 until 1966 he acted as Commander of the Wachbataillon at Siegburg and became Lieutenant-Colonel in 1966. From that moment until 1968 he Commanded the Panzergrenadierbataillon 73 at Hamburg. Between 1968 and 1973 he was the Tactics Instuctor and Hörsallleiter with the Army Staff Officer’s Course in Hamburg. Michael retired as Lieutenant-Colonel on March 31st 1973.
