During World War II Jürgen Stroop was involved in violent actions against civilians, partisans and Jews in the occupied lands of Czechoslovakia, Soviet Russia, Poland and Greece. He is most famous for his role as leader of the oppression of the rising in the ghetto of Warsaw in the spring of 1943. For a short time he was also Higher SS and Police Leader in Greece. His highest earned ranks were SS-Gruppenführer and General Lieutenant of the Police and the Waffen-SS. After the war Stroop was condemned to the dead penalty by both an American and a Polish court. He was executed on 6 March 1952 in Warsaw.
