Werner Duve entered the Frankenstein Police School in Silesia as a police student on October 1, 1930. On October 1, 1931, he was promoted to police sergeant and transferred to the mounted state police hundred in Breslau. On August 6, 1943 he was appointed by a large splinter wounded on the right ankle, but remained with the troops. A day later, he was wounded in the face with a large splinter. On September 20, 1943, he was awarded the German Cross in Gold. On December 8, 1943, he was then commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 676 Grenadier Regiment, and from April 20, 1944, 2nd / Grenadier Regiment 164. On February 20, 1944, he was promoted to major. On August 10, 1944, he was transferred to the leader reserve of the OKH and on October 23, 1944 leader of the Grenadier Regiment 183. During the Ardennes offensive, he distinguished himself with his regiment and made a decisive contribution to the conquest of St. Vith . For this he was awarded the Knight's Cross on February 2, 1945. On March 3, 1945 he was fatally wounded in Schneppenheim, Werhahn, northeast of Euskirchen.
