    Biography

    Emil Kauler joined the Wehrmacht on October 1st, 1940 and was placed with the Bäckerei-Kompanie / 258.Infanterie-Division on October 18th. Before this he worked in the RAD with RAD-Abteilung 1. / 226. On April 26th, 1942 he was transferred to 11. / Infanterie-Regiment 458. He took part in the invasion of the Soviet Union and fought until the end of the war at the Eastern Front. in 1944 he joined the 1. / Divisions-Füsilier-Bataillon 258 / 258.Infanterie-Division. On August 1st, 1944 he was placed with the Ersatztruppe / Aufklärungsabteilung 5 / Kavallerie-Regiment 5. He was transferred to the Aufklärungs-Abteilung / 28.Jäger-Division on November 3rd, 1944. With this unit he was taken prisoner of war by Soviet forces on May 8th, 1945 and was held prisoner in Minsk and Smolensk. He returned to Germany on September 21st, 1948.
