Citation:
"For gallantry in action in France on 29 August 1944 and 1 September 1944. While supporting an infantry unit in an attack, Lieutenant Lant directed the action of his platoon in spite of anti-tank, machine gun and small arms fire in a superior manner and although his command tank received two direct hits from anti-tank guns he continued to maneuver his platoon into position to take out the enemy opposition and enabled the infantry to accomplish their mission. On another occasion when his command tank was knocked out by enemy anti-tank fire, Lieutenant Lant took command of another tank and led the column to rout the enemy. His leadership in battle reflects great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States."
