“Oberleutnant Scheunemann captured Fort 789 together with Oberstleutnant Löwrick, and thereby enabled a German penetration into Maginot Line obstacle zone south of Cappel. This in turn forced the French forces here to retreat.”

Awarded for multiple feats of military skill throughout early and mid 1942. Scheunemann would prove himself in the heavy fighting of the I. Armee-Korps at Wolchow where he was recognized for completing a special mission in an exemplary manner. Later he would receive special recognition from the commander of the 291. Infanterie-Division and the commander of the I. Armee-Korps for leading an ad-hoc formation well over Bataillon strength. Scheunemann also fought well with his battalion on 22.07.1942 at Urizk (near Leningrad).
