Awarded for multiple feats of military skill throughout early and mid 1942. Scheunemann would prove himself in the heavy fighting of the I. Armee-Korps at Wolchow where he was recognized for completing a special mission in an exemplary manner. Later he would receive special recognition from the commander of the 291. Infanterie-Division and the commander of the I. Armee-Korps for leading an ad-hoc formation well over Bataillon strength. Scheunemann also fought well with his battalion on 22.07.1942 at Urizk (near Leningrad).
