Received for the successful command of his Division during an attack northeast of the village of Mulhouse (in the Alsace region of France) on the 03.12.1944. Along with Jagdpanther support, his soldiers recaptured an important bridge and temporarily cut an Allied supply route. In the process of the attack 13 Allied tanks were destroyed or captured.
Awarded for the defensive achievements of his division during the battle of the Colmar pocket.
