Biography

Lester Ball was inducted in the Army on March 18th, 1943 and enlisted in active service on March 25th in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was honorably discharged on November 7th, 1945.

Lester Ball was also entiteld to wear the fourragere/ribbons for the French Croix de Guerre (Unit award) and the Distinguished Unit Citation.

"For gallantry in action. When enemey snipers and a machine gun held up the advance of his company into Nurnberg, Germany on the afternoon of 19 April, 1945, Sergeant BALL advanced 25 yards, to an exposed position within 400 yards of the enemy and set up a 60mm mortar. Under strong enemy fire which hit within a yard of him, sergerant BALL fired numerous shells into their positions, inflicting 11 casualties, causing 10 to surrender and neutralizing the enemy machine gun."
